How can we revive our relationship with the Quran
In the midst of our fast paced life, we inclined to neglect a very significant question: How good is our association with the Quran?
What amount of time and exertion do we spend in reciting, contemplating and understanding this glorious guide given by Allah so we can lead a successful life as a Muslim.
It will likely be very embarrassing for a large number of us, when we look into the amount of time we spend browsing the internet or on social media in contrast to the time we devote to the Book of Allah.
These 10 hadith attract our attention regarding a fortune a considerable lot of us impassively neglect.
Please take careful note of these ahadith and it will hopefully (god willing) encourage you to revive your relationship with the Quran.
An Elevated Rank
1. `A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“One who is proficient in reciting the Quran is associated with the noble, pious (angel) scribes. As for he who stammers when reciting the Quran and find it difficult for him, he will be granted a double reward” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
From this we understand that even if we struggle to recite the Quran, the reward is in fact doubled due to the extra effort we are putting in. We shouldn’t be embarrassed if we are not proficient in reading the Quran but nonetheless keep on practicing over and over so we can eventually gain expertise.
2. `Abdullah ibn `Amr ibn Al-`Aas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told [on the Day of Resurrection:] ‘Recite [the Quran] and ascend [in ranks] as you used to recite when you were in the world. Your rank will be at the last verse you recite.“‘ (Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi)
SubhanAllah beautiful hadith to motivate us and keep constant devotion to Quran recitation.
3. `Uthman ibn `Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The best among you [Muslims] are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.” (Al-Bukhari)
We don’t all have the ability to study the Quran in great detail but if we can learn a little at least, it will benefit us a lot and others around us. Whoever benefits from your teaching, you will constantly be rewarded for it.
Good Deeds Multiplied
4. `Abdullah ibn Mas`ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whoever recites a letter of the Book of Allah will be credited with a good deed and a good deed is multiplied into ten.
I do not say that [the word:] “Alif Lam Meem” is [counted as] one letter. Rather, Alif is one letter, Lam is one letter and Meem is one letter” (At-Tirmidhi)
Help At a Time of Need
5. Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Recite the Quran, for it will come as an intercessor for its reciters on the Day of Resurrection.” (Muslim)
If on the day of judgement our sins outweigh our good deeds, then by the will of Allah the Quran will come and intercede for us as long as we kept a good relationship with it during our days in the dunya.
6. An-Nawwas ibn Sm`an (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“On the Day of Resurrection, the Quran will be brought with its people who acted according to it in this world. The Surahs of Al-Baqarah and Aal-`Imran will be at the front arguing on behalf of their [devoted] reciter.” (Muslim)
Overwhelming blessings
7. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Whenever a group of people assemble in one of the Houses of Allah (i.e. Mosques), reciting the Book of Allah and studying it, tranquility descends upon them, Mercy covers them, angels surround them and Allah makes a mention of them among those who are with Him.” (Muslim)
Spend Time Learning the Quran
8. `Abdullah ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“A person who has nothing of the Quran in his heart is like a ruined house.” (At-Tirmidhi)
Spend as much time as possible in learning the Quran. It is easy to fall into the trap of the dunya but if you think of the bigger picture and want to find ways to please Allah. Even spending 5-10 minutes a day will suffice.
9. Abu Musa Al-Ash`ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Keep refreshing your knowledge of the Quran for [I swear] by the One in whose hand the soul of Muhammad is, it is more liable to escapes [from memory] than camels do from their hobbles.” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
When we are younger our memory is a lot sharper and we pick up things quickly but then as we progress in life we have a lot more responsibility and tend to forget a lot of things easily. Always try and dedicate specific time to refresh your memory and verses of the Quran you may have memorised during your early years.
10. `Abdullah ibn `Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Envy is not justified but in case of two persons only: – One who has been given [knowledge of] the Quran by Allah and thus he recites it during the night and day, – and a man who has been given wealth by Allah, so he spends it during the night and the day (in ways that please Allah).” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
This beautiful reminder tells us about 2 occasions when we can actually be envious of people. May Allah make us amongst the chosen people.
